The villain and love interest of Batman has been depicted in the earlier comic books in different colored and styled costumes. In the 1940′s, Catwoman was still The Cat, and her first official outfit, with matching cape, was colored purple.

Later in the 1960′s, she was officially called Catwoman, but with a purple dress costume, head mask with cat ears, and a green cape. The whip was her main weapon and still used up to the present versions.

Viewers might remember more of Catwoman’s dark gray costume in the 1989 series, with black gloves and boots, and with a cat’s tail. The tail was eventually removed later on.

Green was also used as one of the catwoman costumes in the comic books. This was around 1960′s when green was the typical costume color of villains, where Catwoman was generally categorized.

Catwoman’s costume is probably the simpler and more comfortable costume for women to wear in parties. Unless one plans to achieve the more authentic look, a regular body suit would do well with improvised mask and cat ears. Leotards could also work.

Get some that are well-fitted like the ones worn on aerobics and yoga classes. Boots and gloves are commonly found on clothing stores so this shouldn’t be a challenge. A whip, on the other hand, would be available in costume specialty stores.

Like the current version of Batman costumes, Catwoman’s costumes also evolved in materials and sizes since the original. There seemed to be no need for the original cape, so it was completely dropped in favor of a simple, smoother, but more dangerous look.

A latex body suit, black and glossy, is the current trend for this feline thief. It’s a more durable and elegant fabric which is probably perfect in action.

Like other super hero and villain costumes, catwoman costumes could be bought or rented in large costume shops. On-line stores also offer top of the line imitations, from the most striking patched latex cat suit, to the sleeveless, daring outfit of the latest Catwoman costumes and movie.
